Evidence-Based Practice Begins and ends with the patient

“Evidence-Based-Medicine requires the integration of the best research              evidence with our clinical expertise and our patient’s unique values and              circumstances.” *

1. Individualized time sensitive training programs are created to meet the needs of each client. Our goal is to teach the Evidence-Based Practice skills needed for optimal patient care and to do so within the time constraints of busy practitioners.

2. Learning sessions are available in a variety of formats. In each case special    teaching methods are utilized to address the learning skills of either large or small    groups.

3. Emphasis is placed on learning from clinical research – not doing it.

4. A sample seminar will include most, if not all of the following:

  • The paradigm shift that led to the development and acceptance of Evidence-Based Medicine.
  • The logic of medical decision making and how this influences clinical outcomes.
  • Methods for overcoming the information overload.
  • The basics of study design and evaluation.
  • The five “A’s” of Evidence-Based Medicine:

                                    Asking
                                    Acquiring
                                    Appraising
                                    Application
                                    Analysis

  • The usefulness of the Number Needed to Treat and Likelihood Ratios
  • How knowing about Hierarchies of Evidence leads to time saving when reviewing medical journals.
